Research
Research areas of interest at
Biosystems are diverse and multi-disciplinary. Ongoing
projects include rapid detection of pathogens in air, food, water
and clinical specimens as well as determination of mutagenicity,
carcinogenicity and teratogenicity potential of hazardous chemicals
in the environment. Other research is centered on interests of
scientists in their specialized disciplines of Agriculture,
Agronomy, Bacteriology, Biological Sciences, Biochemistry,
Chemistry, Entomology, Environmental Science, Food Science,
Horticulture, Immunology, Industrial Hygiene, Microbiology,
Medicine, Molecular Biology, Mycology, Parasitology, Pharmacy, Plant
Physiology, Plant Pathology, Public Health, Toxicology, Virology and
Zoology as well as Biological, Chemical, Civil and Environmental
Engineering.
Contract research assignments on a variety of subjects are also
accepted from our sponsors, either in collaboration with others or
independently.
Development
Biosystems
is involved in the development of allergens, antibiotics,
antibodies (monoclonal and polyclonal), antigens, antisera, biological control organisms,
biochips, biologics, carcinogens, cell and organ culture
(human, animal, plant), diagnostic reagents, drugs, consumables of
biological origin, drugs, enzymes, foods, genomics, medical devices, micro-arrays,
mutagens, pharmaceuticals, proteomics, teratogens, toxins and
vaccines for the benefit of life in general and human society in
particular. The
development
of self-contained, independent biological systems and their
components for deployment in
space to serve as a source of food, clean air and waste removal as
well as bioindicators and aesthetic elements for the confined
environment of space stations is of special interest to us.
Similarly, the development of improved biological systems for
biomonitoring and bio-disposal of hazardous wastes in both
terrestrial and extraterrestrial environment is also of considerable
interest to us.
Additionally, a host of R&D assignments of
interest to our sponsors are accepted and completed on an exclusive
confidential basis when the data is proprietary to our sponsors or
on a collaborative, joint-venture basis when such data are developed
together.
